L & H Packing Company was founded by two gentlemen, Al Leonard and Dwayne Harral. Both men worked in the meat packing industry the majority of their lives and always had the vision of owning their own plant. In 1963 this dream came true in San Antonio, TX.

They began as a cow boning and trading operation specializing in lean cattle. Soon thereafter they realized the need for a rendering facility to profitably dispose of the bones form the boning operation. Next, was the addition of the slaughtering operation for the beef as well as the by-products for the rendering process.

In 1979 Surlean Meat Company, now known as Surlean Foods, was founded as a means to capitalize on the food service industry, further processing segment of the beef industry. By owning both L&H Packing Company and Surlean Foods we are able to control the wholesomeness, safety, quality, and consistency of the product from the pasture to the table.

In 1984 the L&H plant was modernized to provide us the capacity to kill and bone over 260,000 cows per year. With this modernization, the continual upgrading, and the continued management by the Al Leonard family, L&H Packing Company has become the largest processor of lean beef in the Southwest.

At L&H Packing Company we pride ourselves on employee experience and dedication to the company. Our average tenure for managers and supervisors is 16 years, with top executives combining more than 129 years of experience with L&H Packing Company.

We look forward to the opportunities the future holds for L&H Packing Company and the possibility of perhaps making you part of our future.
